Holiday Fun

So it’s been quite awhile since I’ve posted my last photo update but things have been fairly chaotic, however, it’s a new year with plenty of fun things ahead at HbA. For this particular update I turned the lens onto my company holiday party. Unlike most photographers I hold a nine to five job (which I enjoy quite a bit if my bosses are reading) and do most of my shooting on the side so when the two came together it definitely started a few conversations around the office. Thanks to all who participated in the “photo booth” and thanks for smiling big for the camera, now on to the photos!

Summer fun

Like I mentioned in the last post I’ve been pretty busy this summer so photos like these have been pushed to the side to take on other projects. However, I’ve always been a firm believer in the phrase “better late than never” so here goes.

College road trips were something I never had the opportunity to do while I was in school. Between classes and the few jobs I held down around campus, finding the time to jump into a car with a roommate or two just never happened — until now. My good friend, former roommate and college buddy Allston called me up with a simple proposition: A road trip to St. Louis, Missouri with good food, drinks and music as the only pursuits.

How could I say no?

An afternoon on the town

It’s been a busy summer for us at HbA Photography! Fortunately, despite the chaos we’ve still managed to have a little bit of fun. Just a few weeks ago my good friend Cait, who just so happens to be a photographer, took the afternoon to explore the city of Gainesville, Georgia with me. She focused on the landmakrs and came away with some great stuff. What did I come away with? Let’s just say that Cait was a great sport and an even better model.

Thanks Cait!

-Ash (HbA)

Maine(ly) living it up

I’ve never really understood why people rant and rave about how great the New England region is until last weekend — Simply put, it rocks.

I was invited to spend the weekend in Portland with some amazing people and in only a few short days I was really digging the atmosphere. People were friendly, summer weather was spectacular, lobster was incredible and the sights were breathtaking. Did I mention the lobster was incredible? I spent my weekend with my gracious hosts Mark, Aimee, their two incredible daughters and Nana “poopie” who took the time to show me what Maine was all about.

Special thanks again to my wonderful hosts I hope that my next visit is sooner than later! Slideshow after the break!

Senior: Meet Justin

It feels like only yesterday that I was sitting down with a photographer to take my senior portraits and now I find myself in a complete role reversal!

I had to chance to follow Justin around in the sunshine state and had a lot of fun in the process. Not only is he a talented artist and an all around funny guy, he recently took up photography, which means next time I see him he may be able to teach me a thing or two.

Congrats & good luck Justin!

Just dance

The Berry College Dance Troupe recently presented “Reflections” the 12th annual dance concert and were kind enough to let me to catch the show before opening night. This is an event that never seems to disappoint and this year was no exception as these ladies and gents put on an amazing performance. Click the “Continue Reading” link to see a slideshow.

Kudos to all those who were involved with this production!

A little rivalry

Twice a year Berry College takes on its cross-town rival Shorter College in a basketball game granting the winner a years worth of bragging rights. This was the first of the two meetings this season, with Berry playing at home in the Steven J. Gage Athletic Center. I usually watch the game from the bleachers, but this year I decided to go court side and really get into the action!

Berry won this round and hopefully they’ll win the next! Go Vikes!

Music to my ears

On my last trip back home I took some time to check out the local music scene and was pleasantly surprised. One particular band by the name of Cheeky Monkey caught my attention with their great personalities and ability to jam (which is always appreciated). If you’re in the Port Charlotte area be sure to check them out, they might even let you join the show!

Special thanks to these guys for allowing me to photograph them!

Four years old and on top of the world

“I’m four years old!”

This was the statement of the day for a birthday boy by the name of Dean.

I’ve watched this little guy grow up and must admit that it has been refreshing to see how even the smallest things in life bring him happiness. I think we all wish we could go back to a day where there were no bills to pay or job to report to and the hardest thing you had to do was decide which toy you wanted to play with before nap time.

What I think I’ve learned most from him is that you can never take life too seriously and you can always find joy in the things you have instead of looking for it in things you don’t have.

Big things are on the way for 2009 so keep an eye on HbA Photo!
